Establishment:
Established by Royal Decree on September 1,1974. The Saudi Fund is Saudi Arabia's channel for bilateral aid to other developing countries. It began its operations in March 1,1975.

Objectives:
The Saudi Fund provides untied, concessional loans to developing countries with the aim of helping them implement their development plans and, where necessary, restructure their economies. Projects that promote the social and economic well being of poor people in low-income and least developed countries are accorded special emphasis.

Operations:
  • Cumulative consolidated loans since establishment till the end of 1999 was almost $7 billion.
  • Total number of beneficiary countries was about 63.
  • The Saudi Fund's activities consist of providing concessional loans to developing countries, and financing and guaranteeing Saudi Arabia's non-oil exports.
